We are seeking a qualified Logistics Supervisor for our operations in Plymouth Meeting, PA. This role oversees all phases of yard operations including staff, and dispatching to ensure goals are met safely and efficiently.  Ensure that the yard operates both safely and environmentally compliant, while effectively and efficiently working within the guidelines of the administrative policies and procedures by performing the following duties:

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for optimizing delivery routes for drivers before each shift. Looks for opportunities in efficiencies throughout the operation, delivery, yard and reports monthly on feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Responsible for monitoring all yard functions to confirm to company policies.  
  • Responsible for dispatching drivers/in-out bound carriers as need to supply on-time, cost effective service and coordinate with customer service, drivers, yard coordinators, and driver supervisor.
  • Track truck movements to assure that we have a method of monitoring on time pick up and on time delivery.
  • Communicate and resolve issues, problems and concerns with drivers and customers as it relates to service deliveries, claims, directions, driver paperwork, DOT, permits and other issues.  
  • Look for opportunities to use combined company drivers and contracted carriers to minimize freight cost.
  • Defines high volume one and two way freight lanes and works to develop advantageous sourcing strategies for each specific freight lane
  • On-call support for company driver questions and needs as they arise including 3rd party drivers and storm response team
  • Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of all yard equipment, reporting equipment problems, and adherence to the preventative maintenance program.  This includes but not limited to daily inspections of truck equipment and works with 3rd party vendors to ensure proper maintenance.  
  • Responsible for yard inventory performing regular cycle counts and annual inventories.
  • Partner with all internal corporate support resources to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations to achieve results. 
  • Responsible for Safety, DOT and yard OSHA awareness.
  • Participates and contributes to company safety program. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Management duties included supervision of exempt and/or non-exempt staff.  This includes but is not limited to, conducting performance evaluations and improvement plans, approving paid time-off (PTO), assigning or delegating work, providing on-the-job training, giving guidance to staff, taking disciplinary action, and interviewing candidates for open positions.

Qualifications: 

  • Education: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: 2 – 4 years of commercial trucking experience required. Experience with self-loaders required.  
  • License/Certification: Commercial Driver’s License Required.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work tactfully with transportation carriers, accounting, data processing and sales personnel.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software,  database software, word processing software, and presentation software.
